The unique chance to learn how to make didgeridoos from wood and fiberglass.

This particular and UNIQUE workshop will allow any participant to start studying, experimenting, and realizing didgeridoos with a specific sound and character!

The 3 days workshop will be divided into three theoretical and practice areas:

  • Didgeridoo Sound Design
    You will be acknowledged of the basics of the physics acoustics of resonating pipes. A book of over 170 pages will be printed very soon, and this is the background of this theoretical block.
  • Didgeridoo Making
    You will be guided in making a wooden didgeridoo using hammers and chisels, and also a didgeridoo made from fiberglass using moulds. A specific lesson will be on materials, tools, safety, and how to create your own affordable, cheap, and absolutely reliable moulds
  • Didgeridoo playing, theory and practice on the most common techniques in order to understand clearly what you can get out at the end from your own didgeridoo or for your customers

My name is Andrea Ferroni, and I was born in December 1977 in Turin, Italy.
I graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1997. I got into music very early, but it wasn’t until 2002 that I got to know the didgeridoo, just in time to jump on the last train that took me and led me through the period of the greatest explosion of this instrument, with all the consequences you can imagine.

Over the years I have studied jazz guitar, saxophone, harmony, overtone singing … and other instruments albeit with less dedication.
I completed a three-year degree in music therapy with an internship at the Chivasso hospital, alcology department, and in private practice with minors with discomfort and handicaps.
Due to the difficulty of finding well-made instruments in the early 2000s, for the uncertainty of understanding the goodness, but also for the often prohibitive and much higher costs than today, and also because I broke two eucalyptus didgeridoos in a few weeks of training, I began to build didgeridoos on my own.
It was during this activity that I began the study of acoustics in different areas. On the one hand, I had the obvious need to understand the few variables of such a simple instrument, where I could act in order to have a pleasant sound, appropriate to a specific style and above all an instrument that was easy to play.
This was the impetus to begin a serious and in-depth study of acoustics that has led me to make numerous instruments, which have been highly appreciated all over the world by many artists who play them live.
I pushed myself with a hint of optimism to contact and then collaborate briefly with the research department of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia for the “FisicaOndeMusica” website.
Since 2005 I have been holding workshops on didgeridoo construction, from wood and fiberglass.
Today I may or may not like my instruments, but they are practical and very easy to play, so much so that those who try them seem to have more years of experience. Then I became interested in problems of the acoustics environment, to avoid boring neighbors, etc., to improve the space in which I live, and last but most important, since 2010 I have been working in an engineering company where, on a daily basis, I deal with simulations of vibrations (modal analyses), dynamic analyses to understand the effect of resonances on an object subjected to specific levels of excitation (forced analyses), then understanding, before realizing it, whether it will break down in operation, whether and how it can transmit vibrations by solid pathway (structure-borne) or airborne (air-borne). Since 2018, I have been working specifically on acoustic analysis in the NVH field, for the reduction or improvement of noise quality for combustion engines and electric. I assess their effects on human perception based on psychoacoustics.

I publish a book entitled “The Didgeridoo discovery” (2006), a new one on the Acoutic of the didgeridoo is quite ready, and seven CDs entitled “Windproject” (2003), “Noises & Voices” (2004), “Tribal Revolution” (2005) and “Breaking Through” (2006), “Windproject 2008 “(2008), Portrait (2008), Testimonianze (2011) and two compilations as an association project.
I consider myself an eclectic person. So not only a didgeridoo player. I make beer and cheese (just for myself and friends), I have trained as a beer and cheese taster, I am a photographer qualified, I travel often, very often fortunately, I am interested in the arts in general, interpersonal communication, and relationships.
I enjoy teaching many of the things I learn, with an awareness of my limitations and the necessary fairness to my interlocutors.
